Grow Process
All microgreen seeds are ordered from reputable seed companies that test their seeds for any pathogens. All seeds are non-gmo.
What are microgreens grow in?
We grow all our microgreens in 10x20 trays using soil; and soil is commonly referred to the “medium” that microgreen farmers use to grow their microgreens. My two favorite mediums to grow microgreens are: 1) Pro-Mix Premium Potting Mix or 2) An all-natural indoor potting mix that I screen.
Seeds
Each variety of microgreen has different sizes of seed. While some seeds require pre-soaking, others do not. When sowing the microgreen seeds it is very important to not overcrowd the tray in an attempt to get as much harvest as possible.
How long for germination?
We stack and put a weight on our sowed microgreens. Each variety of microgreen is a little bit different. However, most of our microgreens are kept in germination for approx. 3 days before they start lifting up on each other and the weight.
What happens after germination?
Typically, there are two main options for microgreens after germination:
1) Some varieties of microgreens are ready to go under lights directly after germination. Many of these microgreens will be ready in 6-10 days once under the grow lights (specific timing is dependent on what I am growing).
2) Some varieties of microgreens aren’t quite ready to get under the lights after germination, and we put them in “blackout” for 1-2 days before introducing them to light.
